Staying Spiritually on Fire

By Danielle Burdett
Sure, some of us know God. We have some type of relationship- We occasionally pray and we might go to church from time to time, but our spiritual fire may feel extinguished.
At times in our life we could have felt closer to God and better able to hear him, but we so easily drift away for one reason or another. We get busy, lazy, complacent, distracted.
Like an instrument, if not constantly adjusted, we get out of tune. And the crazy thing is, most of the time we don’t even realize we have gotten out of tune because the enemy is a master of slowly adding distractions in our lives over time to keep us filled with things that aren’t spiritually serving.
We all need food, but how often are we being intentional about the types of food that we are feeding ourselves? Are we snacking on things that taste good in the moment, but nutritionally are weak and unserving? This type of food leaves us spiritually empty and still hungry. We need to be nourished by His bread.
This is how we take a smoldering fire and reignite it. We feed it with Gods Word. We make time and limit the distractions. This is fuel that feeds the fire.
Cherish this time and make room for it. Find happiness in it. It doesn’t need to feel like a strong discipline, but rather a joyful and consistent routine of delightful conversation. Even if it’s messy at first, you can make adjustments along the way.
We can forget how to run. Heck, we could become unconditioned for it. But we have to start somewhere, even if it means going back to the basics and learning how to crawl first.
